CP575 (Digital): Download Your EIN Confirmation From Business Tax Account

By Forrest Baumhover, CFP®, EA · Last verified September 1, 2026

A digital CP575 is a downloadable confirmation of your EIN, available in Business Tax Account and accepted by banks the same way the original paper CP575 or a Letter 147C request has always been — except you can get it in minutes instead of waiting weeks for the IRS to mail a copy.

If you got this letter

Need to Prove Your EIN?

If a bank, lender, or other institution asked you to prove your business's EIN and you can't find the original paper CP575 the IRS mailed when it first assigned the EIN, you no longer have to call the IRS and wait for a mailed Letter 147C. A digital CP575 is now available inside Business Tax Account, and you can download it yourself.

The digital CP575 confirms the same information the original paper notice did — your EIN and the legal name associated with it — and the IRS states plainly that banks and other institutions accept it as written confirmation, the same way they accept the paper original.

There is nothing to apply for and no deadline. If the IRS already assigned your EIN, sign in to Business Tax Account and look for the download. If you're setting up a new entity, the EIN assignment process itself hasn't changed — this just gives you a faster way to get proof of it afterward.

What the notice actually says

The IRS describes the digital CP575 directly: "CP575 is a digital notice that confirms your Employer Identification Number." It functions as documentation of your EIN assignment, usable anywhere a bank or institution needs written confirmation that the number belongs to your entity.

This is a downloadable document inside your Business Tax Account, not a notice mailed to you — you retrieve it yourself once you set up your account, rather than waiting for the IRS to send anything.

What actually triggered it

The digital CP575 is part of the IRS's broader expansion of Business Tax Account features announced in Fact Sheet FS-2026-11 (July 2026) and detailed further in IR-2026-87 (August 6, 2026). The IRS's own page describing it lists a June 16, 2026 review date, though the IRS has not published a specific date the digital feature itself went live.

It exists to close a real gap: before this, a business that lost its original paper CP575 had exactly one path back to a written EIN confirmation — calling the IRS and requesting Letter 147C, EIN Previously Assigned, which meant waiting on hold and then waiting for mail delivery. The digital version turns a multi-step phone-and-mail process into a self-service download.

What CP575 does not cover

The digital CP575 does not replace the need to keep your original paper CP575 if you still have it. The IRS instructs recipients to keep their CP575 notice in permanent records, and that guidance applies to the digital version too — it's a fallback for when the original can't be found, not a reason to discard it.

It also is not available to every business by default. It requires access to Business Tax Account, which itself has its own eligibility and sign-in requirements — a business that has never set up a Business Tax Account cannot retrieve the digital CP575 until it does. Setting up that account for the first time takes identity verification and a short setup process, so it is worth doing before you actually need the confirmation urgently, not the day a lender asks for it.

What CP575 gets confused with

CP575 is easy to confuse with the CP575A through CP575J series — related paper notices the IRS also mails around EIN assignment, covering variants like a name change or an additional filing requirement. The digital CP575 available in Business Tax Account confirms the EIN itself; it is not a digital version of every letter in that series.

It is also worth distinguishing from CP081B, CP211A, and CP134R — the other notices newly available in Business Tax Account this year. CP575 is purely an EIN confirmation with no deadline attached. CP081B is the one that actually carries a real deadline — a running refund statute — while CP211A and CP134R don't. Don't assume every notice in the account behaves the same way just because they arrive through the same portal.

Where this rule comes from

The IRS's own Understanding your CP575 notice page, last reviewed June 16, 2026, states directly that the digital CP575 substitutes for the CP575A-J series and Letter 147C. FS-2026-11 and IR-2026-87 document its place in the broader Business Tax Account rollout.

If your business has not yet set up Business Tax Account and you need EIN confirmation now, requesting Letter 147C by phone remains available — the digital CP575 is a faster alternative, not the only path.

Common Questions

Is the digital CP575 the same as my original paper CP575?

It confirms the same information — your EIN and the legal name on file — and banks accept it the same way. It's a downloadable substitute, not a literal copy of the original mailing.

Do I need to request the digital CP575, or does the IRS send it?

You retrieve it yourself by signing into Business Tax Account — the IRS does not mail it to you.

Does this replace Letter 147C?

It serves the same purpose — proving your EIN when you no longer have the original notice — and is generally faster since it does not require a phone call or waiting for mail.
